How do I customize the search field?

I'd like to customize the search box size, and the button used.  For example, make it a bit longer and maybe move it from the top right corner to the main part of the site, or replace/look like the large Ask box.
Q2A version: 1.6.3

All you need is .qa-search-field and .qa-search-button in the default CSS file.
