Probably the cleanest way to do so is not really to do so at a theme level but rather at a plugin level.

You can create a plugin with an override to apply on the qa_get_avatar_blob_html() function. You can copy/paste the content and rewrite it according to your needs (removing the first lines of the function, of course).
