The best solution is to upgrade to v1.7.4. Upgrades on the 1.7.* line are bug fixes rather than new features so it's perfectly safe.

But if you really only want the emoji changes then yes, the commit you linked is the one you need. As far as I can see and recall that is the only relevant commit.

which is an important security fix.
