Problem with plugin settings

The plugins are displayed on the plugin page in the admin area, but when I click on "options" for one of the plugins, the database query takes far too long. The plugin settings page doesn't appear.

What could be the problem?

Check the error log. That give some hint why the options are not displaying.

I believe the problem lies with the checking of the plugin versions. How can I disable this?

AFAIK, Version checking doesn't create that issue.
