I second that and think it should be in the core... N-Pro mentioned below is too expensive for what is a necessary function especially for those of us who don't get revenue from our provision and foot all the costs!
Paid plug-ins should be 'luxuries' not the only way to get basic options which, if not provided, simply void the core service offered or at best, cause a frustrating end user experience?
Perhaps it's better not to have the tempting kiss of a passionate love affaire that will never happen. In which case, PMing should be removed from the core and offered as a 'plugin' complete with real functionality which is fit for purpose (incorporating N-Pro) if that's what it takes to get a sensible/worthwhile offering... Just my opinion of course.
