RSS feed not showing new questions?

Question

I'm not sure if I do something wrong. RSS readers such as Reeder is not pulling any new questions nor answers. Once, just once, the RSS feed is updated with new question after a few hours of posting.

There seems to be no setting for this.

Please advise how to troubleshoot.

This is not q2a's fault.   Google Reader only checks the feeds once in a while.

The whole RSS concept was not designed for instantaneous updates (it is pull not push technology)  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push_technology

to check if this is an issue with your RSS reader, try using a different RSS reader

Also, I am confused: are you saying you NEVER get an update on your RSS reader or that you get it after a few hours

I'm as confused as you are.

One new question turned up ONCE before. Then nothing turns up in any RSS readers.

I use Reeder on iOS, NetNewsWire and cappuccino on OS X. All pull news items regularly.

It is OK for me to dig a bit deeper into the issue, but I need some pointers.

When you click on the RSS link on your q2a site, do you get an XML file with your recent postings?  (i.e. try it manually to see if q2a is producing the right info)

Umm... ok. Here is the result.

Using Chromium to post.

Desktop Safari:
* the activity.rss page does not show new postings, even after manually pressing Reload many times

Desktop Chrome:
* it shows new postings immediately upon Reload

Desktop Chromium itself:
* it shows new postings immediately upon Reload

Desktop NetNewsWire:
* no new postings, even after manually pressing Reload many times

Reeder in iOS:
* shows postings up to a certain time; all postings after that time is not shown.

So it appears that the google products work as expected and the other ones don't.
Can you further confirm that by subscribing to your feed with google reader  http://reader.google.com

also please run your RSS feed through http://feedvalidator.org/

I can confirm you now that the Feed is already in Google Reader, and GR will not show the latest postings too.

On the Mac, NetNewsWire doesn't get new news feeds in activity.rss, questions.rss, hot.rss and unanswered.rss.

Vienna for the Mac works perfectly fine; it gets all new items immediately upon reload.

Google Reader is notorious for not updating feeds. Even if you tell it to check regularly, if new questions are not being asked regularly, it starts to slow down and sometimes will stop showing new posts.

It's a problem with GR, not Q2A.
