How far back (time, or number of records) is the "activity stream" lookback?

Question

Unsure whether this is governed by the "Length of All Activity page" setting (value for which is number of entries). My goal is to limit display -- both for the "all activity" list and for the "activity stream" displayed on a user's page -- to "activity past 7 days" and provide a link labeled "prior activity" which would display additional entries if clicked.

Currently it's based on the number of items only, but you could modify this via an advanced theme.
