How do I get the plugins to work?

when I try to add a plugin to my sidebar such as an adsense unit or a tag cloud, it does not show up.

See the settings like in which pages is the plugin suposed to be shown, and in which part of the page.

Thanks for your reply. I did check that and it is supposed to show on the front page (latest questions and answers.)

I notice that the plugins will show anywhere except for when I try to add them to the sidebar.

Have you made changes to the theme? It's possible you have overridden a function that displays stuff in the sidebar. Check the functions in your qa-theme.php against qa-theme-base.php
