how can i deal with many users sign up to use the site for promotions?

Question

i have found that my site after i installed  question2answer there are many users signed up to promote their things how can i prevent this ?

can i put new users into hold before they can make any post?

This may not be enough, but it can be solved by changing below settings of the admin panel.

Admin > Spam

• All new users must confirm their email: ON
• Enable moderation (approval) of users: ON (This will be difficult to operate.)
• Use captcha for user registration: ON
• Use captcha if email not confirmed: ON
• Use moderation if email not confirmed: ON
• Use moderation for users with few points: ON

Admin > Permissions

• Asking questions: Registered users and email confirmed OR Registered & email confirmed & enough points
• Answering questions: Registered users and email confirmed OR Registered & email confirmed & enough points
• Adding comments: Registered Registered users and email confirmed OR Registered & email confirmed & enough points

If these basic features do not eliminate much spam, you may need to install any anti-spam plugin. You can find some plugins by searching this site. However, those plugins are not all-purpose. You should be satisfied with some reduction in the number of spam.

Comments

All this does not stop the issue. But just reduces it.

They can find on search engine very easily writing "Powered by Question2Answer"

berzan i  tried to use what you said but it showed only big sites use Question2Answer but my site is new and has almost no content they must be using another way

actually these spamers bein able to find the sites using question2answer very easy makes me scared of using question2answer theme for many reasons

arjunsuresh i uploaded it on my new site as a test i was intended to use it really but since what i saw from those spamers i would think more than one time this is the first time i find those kind of spamers

now i really got tired of those spammers!
i dont get it why would they waste their time in spamming unpopular new site? what is the benefit? also i dont get till now how do they find those sites using q2a? i didnt put even content this is scaring me from using q2a in the future!

@most if you set  150 point for below then it may reduce SPAM. have u tried that?

You may also need to delete existing spam users. as soon as you see spam from someone just delete that user.
