Are you trying to use Q2A instead of SMF? If so, there must be a bridge for Q2A in Coppermine Gallery. According to the document below, unfortunately it seems that bridge with Q2A is not supported.

However, Q2A has a single sign-on feature to share users with other system (It is assumed WordPress). This feature is very informative, but I do not know if it can be diverted to systems other than WordPress.

Anyway, I think there is no easy way to solve it.
