in Q2A Core by

Hi, I have a few suggestions for Q2A 1.8 or at least 1.9.

  1. User option to filter out a category/tag - he/she won't see any question from those ones.
  2. Tag search to list questions from the selected tag(s) - there is a premium plugin for this but I feel this should be in core. I also have a custom search doing this, but still this should be in core :)
  3. User option to choose editor - if this is possible via plugin then no need to be in core, but otherwise would be nice.
  4. I see a DB option for maxvotecount for answer in a question. But there is no option to sort question by this- will be nice.
  5. User notification - Plugin is fine (free one available now) for this but being in core is better.
  6. Comment up voting and points for comment up votes - I feel some comments deserves points.
  7. Category currently works for unanswered questions by allowing unindexed queries in database. Can the same be done for "Favorite" questions to display them per category?

Hello @arjunsureh, sometime back I asked about the roadmap for Q2A 1.8 (you can check it here). It covers some of the features you have listed.

  1. Tags and User ajax search is necessary in core, since most people search for keywords in stead of typing the complete question.
  2. Ckeditor have some custom selection for the plugins needed in the toolbar, for which Scott said that it'll be updated. Check it here
For rest options I would also like to see what Scott has to say.

Thank you Gurjyot. This is one more feature I would like- getting a notification for @arjunsuresh- which basically means a user allows himself to be tagged. So, this must be a user allowed option. Now, there should be a editor plugin which allows autofill of usernames as we start @yyy  first three letter of names. I guess the difficulty here is it needs 2 parts- one for editor and one for Q2A.

Hello @arjunsuresh, I think all your ideas are going to be in Q2A 1.8 ;)
I remember Scott saying to add @mention feature in Q2A 1.8, here is the link check it out.

Thanks. That would make Q2A perfect from a user perspective. But adding the @mention feature (as in Facebook) would be challenging as it would need a ckeditor plugin to suggest user names.
These cover all the requests from the user side and need support from Q2A. Another thing which needs urgency is better mobile support but I guess this has nothing to do with core.

Yes Facebook type @mention can be difficult but if we all help Scott to implement this feature then it can surely make it to core. And I would be regularly testing Q2A 1.8 for reporting any bugs so that we won't have to wait for another release to fix all bugs.
Like wise you can also something to help Q2A, whatever suits you best... :)

Sure. I have been using Q2A for about a year and would like to contribute. But I need 2 more months to finish with my thesis. I already have some plugins listed which I would make for Q2A :)

That's awesome, all the best for your thesis and I would be waiting to see your plugins. :)
