Boosting the Chat Plugin to a Live Chat Widget?

Just got that idea that I want to note down before I lose it again :)

I thought it would be great to have Scott's chat plugin extended so that we do not have to open an extra page but instead have the chat fixed on the bottom right (like social networks are doing it).

Then the user can opt in or opt out.

Of course, this should only be for q2a sites with vivid community members.

Hmm not bad idea. However I guess that requires a lot of bandwith. Am i right?

I think the idea of Scott is good. And I like multi chat window like Facebook. If equipped with multi-chat, the load of transmit line and server will increase. Therefore,  I think worry of takesi is also correct. However, it may be possible to reduce the load by tuning Ajax polling interval and timing. Anyway, a lot of skill and test would be necessary.
