Maybe this exists already, I have no idea. But I think this feature would be of value :

  • enable > moderators to mark threads as 'sticky threads'.
  • add a background script that 'bumps' one of the sticky threads to the top every now and then.
  • add a subnavigation item for sticky threads, next to the 'hot!' subnavigation item.

This would be good for my website, where some controversial threads disappear from the main list after a day or two and are forgotten.

For now you can use NoahY's featured question plugin. https://github.com/NoahY/q2a-featured

You might want to modify it to your needs.

This is a great plugin, but it appears to only affect the home and questions (top level) pages. Do you know if there's a way (I know there is I'm just not very php savvy) to modify this to work across all pages? It works great on the main Q&A page and the questions page, but if I click on a category the featured question isn't featured anymore. My end goal is to have a featured thread in each category which contains formatting examples and FAQ's.
