Is there a plugin or option that enables categories to have multiple parents?

Question

I would like to have some subcategories to be placed under multiple categories, to get a structure like this:

Category 1
|- Sub-category A
|- Sub-category B
|- Sub-category C

Category 2
|- Sub-category A
|- Sub-category D

...

Is this in any way possible? For example with a plugin or making 'Sub-category A' under 'Category 2' a link to the first 'Sub-category A'.

I have looked at the plugins and the options and there doesn't appear to be anything that can do this at the moment. I would suggest closing this question and submitting a Plugin or Feature request.

I have started writing a custom plugin to add a feature like this. Currently I am still unsure if I will make it open source, as it needs alot more polishing than a closed source option.

That's awesome - someone that wants a feature in something but doesn't constantly complain that someone else hasn't already done the work for them. Good luck with it mate and well done! I am sure there are others that will help you out if you need a hand. I myself haven't looked into the plugin writing yet - but hope to do so some day soon.
