It would be nice to see user's profile statistics on the right hand, for example:

current role, points earned, if there is new answer/replay on his question (instead of mailing him) etc.

Yes, the sidebars are indeed underused at this point, and they could contain many things (related tags, user statistics). Options will be added in future versions...
