Why am I seeing garbage text?

Question

I just installe Q2A following all the instructions.  On the final step of visiting the URL I only see the following text in the web browser instead of installation instructions.

I started commenting things out and this text seemed to happen at line 158 of "qa-include/qa-index.php":

ob_start('ob_gzhandler');

There is an option in config.php to turn off compression (for when your server already compresses output). Set it to false:

define('QA_HTML_COMPRESSION', false);
