Calling QA_CONST_PATH_MAP Outside of qa-config.php

Question

Is there way to call QA_CONST_PATH_MAP outside of qa-config.php, that is, can I create a secondary config file that is not in qa-includes that will work in addition to the core Q2A files.  I am thinking that this will make thing easier when I upgrade Q2A.  I would like to avoid changing the Q2A core.  The more I think about this the more I think a plugin might be in order but I thought I would ask first.

I notice that the qa-config.php is in the /.git/.gitignore file so im guessing this might not get updated often.  Still, Im looking for a basic way to call QA_CONST_PATH_MAP outside the core Q2A without completely overriding qa-config.php.
