As you aware admins can give bonus points directly from user-profile page in frontend. However, each given bonus points are not recorded, instead it is overriden. This should be improved. It is not the proper way.

Suppose that admin decides to give +50 points to a user via bonus points field. After a while admins again gives +75 points who a reason to the same user. In such a case admin should override previous given score and should consider it, so admins should give 75+50 points. After a time this working approach becomes very complicated. The admin cannot give when the first time bonus was given.

In this respect, I believe this should be improved by core hack or at least by plugin.

Is there a point system or weight value assigned to Questions, Tags and answers when searching by a keyword?

I was curious how the Search within my Q&A operates, or how it evaluates order. I was assuming:
(from a single-word search)

Search evaluates: Tags, Questions then answer...or a score? For example

Tag 1pt
Question 1pt
Answer 1pt

Finding the keyword in the question once, but the answer 3 times is a score of 4.
Finding the keyword in a questions once, tag once and answer 2 times is a score of 4.

If that's true, how does it order them. I noticed that a keyword I used was found in an assumingly unexpected order (as search results) as follows:

Searched keyword resulted in six questions with the keyword I searched for:
Q1. Tag (1), Answer(3)
Q2. Question (1), Tag(1)
Q3. Question (1), Tag(1), Answer(1)
Q4. Answer(1)
Q5. Answer (2)

I don't see relevance, should it be order be Questions: 1, 3, 2, 5 and 4 at best? The reasoning behind this order is that described below, a tag should have a higher point or weight over the search word in questions, then answers.

Is there a way I can add more "points" or weight to each, question, tag and answer. For example, I'd want the tags to be a point or weight value of 3, questions of 2 and answer of 1 when searching keywords. Over time I think this would help users think about their tags more carefully and determine the best suitable keywords.

If I'm completely wrong, I'll change this question so not to confuse others.

I already tried tr#points{ display:none;}

i have problem with pages that have pointed with users.if a question or answere have a point,the page style(font,numbers and...) change and a part of answere be in top of the page.

The more you get point, the more you can help the site getting better by first approve other users questions, then modèrate, etc.

This is the point system that comes with q2a 1.5 and 1.6 (and older versions?) installed by default:

I thought it is time to rethink the system. I have found a quite good explanation, how and why stackoverflow chosed their point system:

An upvote brings the author +5 reputation if it"s a question and +10 reputation if it"s an answer. The difference is because answers are the ones that provide the highest quality content, so they are more valuable.

A downvote reduces the author"s reputation by 2 points, no matter if it"s a question or answer. However, when you downvote an answer, your reputation will also go down with 1 point. This decision was made to encourage improving the answers as opposed to just marking them as low quality.

Every question has to have tags: at least 1, at most 5. These tags help categorize the questions so they"ll be easier to sort and find. For example, a question about how to apply a Look-and-feel in Java will probably have the "java", "swing" and "look-and-feel" tags.

The question"s author is encouraged to pick an answer that he considers to be the best. In this case, the answer"s author receives +15 reputation and the question"s author receives +2 reputation.

Improve the point system: No points for answer on own question!

If you have a reward system, points get important.

All version below q2a v1.6.2 give points to a user that asks and answers his own question. This should be prevented.

How can we change the core to not grant points if he answers his own question... ?

This would solve my problem, that users - that found a good answer to their problem - do not have an answer button and cannot post it...

PS: This is implemented in stackoverflow as well: 0 points for answer on own question.

Hi I'm a student from Germany and I work with two other students on a Q2A-system with the topic Ask a question over the study and get answers from other students. From students to students :-)

Now we have some problems with the pointsystem to find the best settings for the pointsystem, for exapmle we give + or - points for voting a answer as a bad answer or something else.

What kinds of settings are you using?

It would be nice to see user's profile statistics on the right hand, for example:

current role, points earned, if there is new answer/replay on his question (instead of mailing him) etc.
