3 years ago, it was announced that the platform would be upgraded to version 1.9

But since that time we have not seen any development.

We hope the developers are doing well!

I suggest that $5 of each person be donated to speed up the development process?

Would this be an appropriate solution?

1) Follow system like quora will be better. I think the point system is not a good idea. People give a short answer for points. In a follow system, people will give a big and better answer to gain followers.

Users can follow different topics or categories.

2) On the home page, people will see questions from their followed users and categories. if I post any question or answer my follower will see this on their homepage. Everyone can see questions and other pages without registration but to get access to the homepage they have to register.

3) Users can request other users to answer their questions. if I ask a math-related question I can see those who answered in the math category before and I can request them. They will get a notification and email.

I think some features like Quora should be given in Q2A

Some of amazing features Needed in Q2A are:

- User can request another user to answer a specific question.

- Push Notification feature should be added in core.

- User should follow tags and category and receive updates on any question and answer posted on the followed tags and category.

- Just like email verification there should be mobile number verification through OTP after registration.

- Currently in Q2A we can follow any question and user but we do not get updates through email regarding any activity on the followed question. So, user should also get email regarding updates on followed question.

- Featured question feature should be added in core.

- Verified account feature should be added in core like in quora.

- Current search feature in q2a is not optimum. We do not get exact search result in q2a. So it should be improved.

In current Q2A version point feature is of no use, I mean we simply get points on answering any question but user can not use their points for any other purpose.

So points should be used in such a way that will lead more engagement between the users and Q&A too.

There should be default awesome theme in Q2A just like Flarum and Discourse

I'm going to use this question to post various updates on Q2A development as it occurs. A few important things to note about v1.9:

The minimum PHP requirement will be version 5.4. Market share for <=5.3 has dropped below 20%, and those versions have not been officially supported by PHP for over 4 years. If you are still using PHP 5.3 I suggest looking to upgrade as soon as possible.
The old includes from qa-include/ (directly, not including subfolders) will be deleted. Since v1.7 they were moved to the subfolders (app/, db/ etc) and stubs added for backwards compatibility. Any plugins still using those should update to use the newer includes, for example change
require_once QA_INCLUDE_DIR . 'qa-app-posts.php';
to
require_once QA_INCLUDE_DIR . 'app/posts.php';
Namespaces are being used in the core code. I wrote a little about this in the docs here but the main gist is that it's much easier to use certain classes - you just use them, no need to include PHP files first.

I will add answers with updates every so often.

The beauty of a roadmap is that you know what to expect.

I cannot find Scott's roadmap post, so here are the most important things that I would like to see in the core:

1. Userids in user URLs instead of only username URLs (stackoverflow is using userids by a reason, no confusion anymore with changed usernames, that got stored in the database etc.): /userid/handle

2. List of Comments for each user (requested so many times also as issue on github)

3. Complete move to Jquery, removing all onclick and inline javascript

4. Possibility to define flexible theme options in admin panel (instead of hard-coding them in qa-theme.php)

5. Base Theme functions for "Ask" page

6. HTML Emails

7. Sitemap splitting if 50k+ entries (sitemap index file) → Done by Ultimate SEO Plugin

I have big project on Q2A and I need some important new features in Q2A . @ProThoughts tell me about post my ideas for this, so here You are - I really need this featues and would be cool, to offer it in 1.8 :

PLUGINS FOR ALL, FOR ME REALLY NECESSARY BUT I'M SURE NOT ONLY FOR ME :)

- preview for post - preview how post will look on site after publish

- drafts post. - now i'm using HIDE feature as draft post (with many custom core changes) , but it's not exactly this, what it should be :)

- schedule post, post planning - really necessary for me, ability to publish some post at specified time/date set in admin/moderation panel !

- surveys / polls with abllity to add CUSTOM answer by users (update for poll plugin would be cool)

- points for regular login (for example 1 for 24 hours)

- update for existing Noahy achievements plugin, to receive points when achievement unlocked, also ability to create new achievemnets !

- reactions plugin for posts - as facebook ability to post REACTION after read posts (with ability to add custom reactions - with images - too) :)

- verified users badge - ability to mark from admin panel some user profiles as verified (like on facebook) - for example for public people etc. registered on site.

- hide categories / posts from MAIN/HOME page - ability to HIDE some specific categories and/or posts from showing on home/main posts stream page

- sort questions/answers/comments in moderation page/admin and filtering by categories showing in moderate section

SOME CRAZY FEATURES, WHICH I NEED FOR MY SITE - INTERESTING FOR ENTERTAINMENT SITES WITH STRONG POINTS USAGE (as paid plugins):

- quiz / test module, with q2a points system included. There is something like this from q2apro, but it allows to post ONE QUESTION by post and without using POINTS system - I need to change this and offer points for users who play quizzes :) I need ability to post MANY question as one post, because it's really not usable for users. I also need plugin like test, with type of results showing dependes on points which user collected. For example: if user have 5-10 points shows result A, if user have 11-15 points, result B etc.

- bookies module (bookmachers) . Ability for bets and stake . Here You can find how it could work (it's available now for PHPBB/VBULETTIN forums cms): http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65844 . User offer for example stake 1:2 for option: In New York today will raining. Users betting some points for yes or not. If yes, Users will win 2x points (because 1:2 stake) , if now, users will lose 2x points. Of course there must be some commision for users, who offer some points for this. And permission for good type of users (only experts can set new bookings for example etc.) . If there are anyone , who want to make this plugin, I am interested to work on this, non exclusive developing included too .

- category/fanclubs rankings and joining - This plugin is in paid development now by @jatin.soni - thanks ! :) This plugin will be available for sale for everyone after release too - I'm like sponsor for this ability .

- events like new type of posts, with ability to offer joining to events by other people etc. I Have some idea for this, but it's not completed now . I need some more time for this.

- lottery as new section. Users will buy coupons for for example 100 points and everyday someone will win all points from users - as random :)

This is my ideas for my site now. I'm using also best of the best notification pro system like facebook. It's really important to offer many of this plugins using this notification pro (from sama55) plugin. I think it's not necessary to develope another notification plugin. This, from sama55 is the best , absolutely :)

@ProThoughts, @Scott and other devs - what do YOU thinking about this? Is it possible to make some of this available in 1.8 as free or paid plugins ?

[Important] Q2A Update

@Scott When can we expect Q2A 1.8 official release. I do not have any issue using the dev one - but Q2A 1.7.4 is not good to be used due to incompatibility with ipV6.

But my concern is regarding the notification system- there is nothing in the current version regarding this. At least can the dev version of this be put available? Because I would like to add some notification features like "Follow a question", "Notifications regarding blog posts" etc. which are not in core. If this notification system is not coming any time soon, I can manage with the current notification system and add these there.

Also, I noticed a bug, when sharing qa_users table on multiple sites running Q2A 1.8, the category widget is displaying data from older site on the newer site. If I get a fix, I shall do it and give a pull request.

Since notifications are coming in Q2A 1.8, can we expect an option for users to Turn off emails as given by FB so that unless he logs on to site, he won't get any emails for Q/A/C? Same question is asked below.

I'm worried about future of Q2A - still no news from main developers, no new plugins, everything stopped now. It's reallly big difference in opposite of this, what was here 1-2 years ago...

So - I need to know. Especially from You, @Scott . Are You have important plans for future of Q2A and I can still use this engine, with possible new updates in future or You're going to finish development of Q2A ?

I have important site for our company on Q2A now, some strategic project, and I need to know this.

Hello,

The important feature is that have to make the admin able to put delay between posting Q,A,C from the admin control panel like vBulletin and other scripts

That because the member click many times quickly on the ask or answer button the question or answer will be posted many times see the screenshot :

And the second issue that have to be resolved is that the admin of the website when set the new entries under moderate mode have to check many thousands of entries daily to approve or decline its

So that it have to be checked by more than one person so the moderate section must be contain page numbering :

It will not be the final solution for the issue but it is good because every admin will check a page

I have been trying to make my Q2A site (it still runs 1.7.0 due to core hacks) better and hence trying to make all the plugins better. Most of the core functionality is very reliable in Q2A and with notification feature and caching coming it becomes even better. Just to add to them, some requests:

Adding Tag Search option in Core. I have made a plugin for this here but most of the display functions are taken from Q2A core as it uses that in the Ask Page to give tag suggestion. So, I guess it makes more sense for this to be part of core.
I guess at least 20% of Q2A site uses MathJax. This can be added to a Q2A site as a plugin but with one issue- on answer/comment add, we have to call
MathJax.Hub.Queue(['Typeset', MathJax.Hub, e]);

on the newly created <div> element e. Unfortunately this needs a core hack as of now in qa-question.js file
Notification feature is very much awaited. Would it be possible for developers to add new notifications to it? Because some plugins like blog-tool, question-merge etc. requires notifications. So, it would be great if there is a way to add new notifications in the core.
Replacing fb-login plugin with open-login plugin. AFAIK both are not mutually compatible and open-login looks a better one and has more options.
Long-term pending - FILTER METHOD- I suggest to let the users select a set of tags - and questions having those tags won't show on site for him. Not only this, admins can also restrict some set of tags per user. Advantage of this is
- This allows certain set of questions to be more privileged. So, only those users which satisfies some criteria can view those. (This would also the require to be checked before loading a question page).
- In my case I'm running an exam based on Q2A and would like to hide the questions until a user has completed the exam.
- Also, my site is having questions from different examinations all having same subjects but different exams have different syllabus. So, it makes sense to filter the questions as per the syllabus of the exam per user.
Currently this requires a core hack :( Or it would be nice if we can override functions from DB/selects.php
