Create an artificial "q_post" event with qa_report_event()?

I am migrating posts from one installation to another and have heavily rewritten the network plugin of Noahy for this.

Now I need to call the qa_report_event('q_post', ...) on the target forum so that the question appears in the famous liveticker that all my users use.

However, it looks quite complicated in the core:

qa_report_event('q_post', $oldquestion['userid'], $oldquestion['handle'], $oldquestion['cookieid'], $eventparams + array(

'notify' => isset($oldquestion['notify']),

'email' => qa_email_validate($oldquestion['notify']) ? $oldquestion['notify'] : null,

'delayed' => $oldquestion['created'],

));

How to create a simple q_post event? I dont need the notify / email / delayed options etc.

I don't understand the $oldquestion part, by the way.

---

The function says:

function qa_report_event($event, $userid, $handle, $cookieid, $params = array())

Thus I would just use:

qa_report_event('q_post', $userid, $handle, $cookieid, $params)

where $params must include the postid of the question, `postid=1159 parentid= parent= title=The question title is `

Best practice for several eventlog tables and on-site-notifications?

Having a setup now, where multiple q2a installations (let's call it "network") run on the same database, with different prefixes (but shared user database), I want to achieve a "network" wide notification for events.

The events are stored per site (according to the prefix), for instance:
qa1_eventlog
qa2_eventlog
qa3_eventlog

Having the on-site-notifications plugin installed, it only checks for the events on the according site, but not network wide.

My question: Should I simply modify the on-site-notifications plugin to read all eventlog tables?

Or should I create another way of handling those events, e.g. storing all new events in a unified qa_notify_eventlog table?

What would be best practice, especially with eyes on speed.

Event Logger don't write 'in_q_vote_up' and 'in_a_vote_up' to database?

Hi

I have coded out the following events so they don't write to database and this works for me:

q_vote_up
q_vote_nil
a_vote_up
a_vote_nil

I would like to do the same with the following:

in_q_vote_up
in_a_vote_up

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work and they still write to the database.

Any ideas? Code below... Thank you for your time.

This is the original code in page 'qa-event-logger.php'

line 150

    public function process_event($event, $userid, $handle, $cookieid, $params)
    {
        if (qa_opt('event_logger_to_database')) {
            $paramstring='';
            foreach ($params as $key => $value)
                $paramstring.=(strlen($paramstring) ? "\t" : '').$key.'='.$this->value_to_text($value);

            qa_db_query_sub(
                'INSERT INTO ^eventlog (datetime, ipaddress, userid, handle, cookieid, event, params) '.
                'VALUES (NOW(), $, $, $, #, $, $)',
                qa_remote_ip_address(), $userid, $handle, $cookieid, $event, $paramstring
            );
        }

This is the code I have amended in page 'qa-event-logger.php'

line 150

            public function process_event($event, $userid, $handle, $cookieid, $params)
    {
            $paramstring='';
        if (qa_opt('event_logger_to_database') && $event!='q_vote_nil') {
Needed: Option to disable the question and user event "updates" in q2a core

Stumbled again over this: Until today i haven't used the core shared events, nor my users in their "updates" pages. The updates pages are completely removed. From the beginning I was using Noah's history plugin, then the q2apro onsite notifications plugin to write events into the eventlogger table. From this table I am reading all data and displaying it frontend, each user has a 7-day-history page.

I strongly suggest (since my db qa_sharedevents already reached 80 MB and others are growing even more ... for nothing), to provide a switch to turn off the "event trackings" individually.

Or only rely on the event logger which is doing an awesome job in my opinion.

EDIT: I am thinking if I can write a plugin that overrides function qa_db_event_create_for_entity() with a simple return;

PS: From http://www.question2answer.org/secure.php "To save space and time, you need not back up the following tables: qa_cache, qa_contentwords, qa_iplimits, qa_posttags, qa_sharedevents, qa_tagwords, qa_titlewords, qa_userevents, qa_userlimits, qa_words. These contain information which is temporary or which can be recalculated from other tables in the database." --- So I guess qa_sharedevents and qa_userevents can be neglected.

Event logger cused to slow down the website

Hello

plugin is slowing down the site due to creating slow queries

the Each of these queries is not indexed and is taking even as high as 89 seconds to execute. How to remove the plugin or how to index these tables so that the query time on these is lowered to 1-2 seconds. When the number of visitors is low,

I am trying to disable the plugin from the Admin panel but it can not be disabled

Because after disabling it did refresh the page and see it enable

Thank you.

Why so strange string created for event log params column?

I just wonder why eventlog params column storing string in strange key=val format and why not serialized or json?

Currently it is storing in this format

postid=22 parentid= parent= title=function return ...

Why don't you store in simply json or serialized like this

{"postid":22,"parentid":"","title":"function return ..."}

or

a:3:{s:6:"postid";i:22;s:8:"parentid";s:0:"";s:5:"title";s:19:"function return ...";}

Is there any specific reason or never though on it?

Event logger plugin : any user can initialize the database. Bug ?

	Event Logger plugin, v1.1

	Q2A 1.6.2

	The plugin is already included in the q2a installation.

	I decided to NOT enable it initially, but to start first populating the q2a db (I've created a new q2a website) with some test questions and some test users (default privileges on registration).

	As an admin, I decided, after a couple of days, to enable it to see how it works, and checked the "Log events to qa_eventlog database table" option.

	After I saved the option, no qa_eventlog table was created in the mysql db. Why ?

	After that, I decided to logout as an admin, and to login (same pc, but with another browser) as a normal user

	What happened ?

	I received, logged in as a normal user, a web page saying : "The Event Logger event module requires some database initialization.", with a button saying : "Initialize database".

	The user is responsible to initialize the db (!)

	I could click on the button and I was able to initialize the database ("Running query: CREATE TABLE qa_eventlog ......", "The Event Logger event module has completed database initialization.")

	At the bottom of the page there was also a link "Go to admin center"

	(http://question2answer/index.php?qa=admin)

	When I clicked, I could not go to the admin center of course ("Only administrators may access this page") because I was logged in as a normal user (ok)

	My question : is this a "design" bug ?

	The admin enables the checkbox, and the first user who creates an event is responsible of initializing the database.

	It sounds to me a wrong behavior this "lazy" initialization.

	The initialization should happen immediately, when the admin save the options AND the option is flagged, in the same "logical" transaction of the insert/update in the options table.

	Is this a bug ?

Google Bot causing thousands of search events (event logger)

	Just checked table qa_eventlog and found dozens of SEARCH events, triggered by IP 66.249.78.148 which seems to be Google Search bot. crawl-66-249-78-148.googlebot.com

	As this is not human, I do not want to have those events listed in my database (and who knows how enormous the data grows if bots visited my forum each day).

	Any counter measure (but blocking the IP which is undesired in this case...)

	Thanks,
Bug in default plugin "event-logger"? "oldvote=0" then "oldvote=1" - what is this?

	I see in my logs that the q_vote_up and in_q_vote_up event is registered twice (but only for me as admin!). Example here:

				95.90.218.244

				1

				echteinfachtv

				595250729713884472

				in_q_vote_up

				postid=3902    vote=1    oldvote=1

				2012-10-28 16:25:31

				95.90.218.244

				291

				Klausii

				595250729713884472

				q_vote_up

				postid=3902    vote=1    oldvote=1

				2012-10-28 16:25:31

				95.90.218.244

				1

				echteinfachtv

				595250729713884472

				in_q_vote_up

				postid=3902    vote=1    oldvote=0

				2012-10-28 16:25:31

				95.90.218.244

				291

				Klausii

				595250729713884472

				q_vote_up

				postid=3902    vote=1    oldvote=0

	Is this a bug in event-logger or could it be that the user somehow triggered the event twice in the same second?

	Thanks, Kai

	PS: The only difference I can see is "oldvote=0" then "oldvote=1" - what is that?

Bug in Admin panel setting event logger

	in version 1.4.1 there is a new feature to log events.

	Unfortunately the option
" Log events to daily log files"

	can not be disabled by the GUI as planned.

	this may be a bug - or? The switch off by direct access to the database is of course possible :)
