[Plugin] Pre-Confirm Registration — no user ID generated until email is confirmed

Hi everyone,

I built a small plugin to solve a spam registration problem I was having, and I wanted to share it with the community.

The problem

Q2A's built-in email confirmation still creates a user ID immediately when someone registers. Spam bots that never confirm still pile up as real rows in your database. After a while your user list is full of junk.

What this plugin does

It intercepts registration at the core level using a Q2A event module hooked into `u_register`. The moment a new user is created, the plugin:

1. Reads the bcrypt password hash Q2A just stored

2. Saves everything to a `qa_pending_users` table

3. Deletes the Q2A user immediately

4. Sends a confirmation email with a secure token

5. Redirects the visitor to a "check your inbox" page

The real user ID is only generated when the visitor clicks the confirmation link. Spam bots that never confirm leave **zero trace** in the database.

Why an event module and not a page override?

I originally tried overriding the `/register` page with a page module, but Q2A's built-in routing gives its own pages priority — the classic form kept showing regardless. The event module approach bypasses that entirely and works with any theme or registration page out of the box.

- Works with Q2A 1.8.x, PHP 7.2+

- Admin-created accounts are not affected

- Pending rows expire after 24 hours and are purged automatically

- Tokens are 64-character cryptographically secure strings (`random_bytes(32)`)

- No core Q2A files modified

I don't know how useful this will be, but I've just tested it and hope it's helpful. You should go and get your keys.

Unlike previous versions, this plugin is 100% invisible. It doesn't require users to check "I'm not a robot" boxes or solve annoying visual puzzles.

That’s honestly a really great addition

You’re totally right—by default, Question2Answer only logs out the current session, which isn’t ideal, especially when someone forgets to log out from another device or used “Remember Me” on a shared computer.

The “Logout from All Devices” feature you added in q2a-miscellaneous-settings makes a lot of sense. It’s one of those things users don’t always think about, but it really matters for security and peace of mind.

I also like that it keeps things simple—just one action to invalidate all sessions instead of dealing with them one by one.

Maybe later on, it could be interesting to:

show active sessions/devices
or let users log out from specific ones

But even as it is now, it’s already a solid improvement. Thanks for sharing this

New Featured Questions System

I’ve added a new feature that allows users to feature their questions so they appear in a carousel on the activity page.

How does it work?
Users can feature one of their questions using their points. Once featured, the question will appear in a widget, making it visible to everyone.

Main Features

Feature questions with points: Featuring a question costs 500 points.
24-hour duration: A featured question remains visible for 24 hours. This duration can be modified in the plugin settings.
One featured question per user: Each user can have only one featured question at a time.
Manual removal: Users can manually remove their featured question before the time runs out (points are non-refundable).
Automatic carousel: Featured questions are displayed in a rotating carousel that slides automatically every few seconds.
Pop-up window: All featured questions can also be viewed in a pop-up window by clicking the "View All" button.

Visible Information
Each entry in the carousel displays:

Question title
"Featured" badge
User avatar and name
Remaining time for the featured post

Answered: Proposal: A Universal “Login with Your Q2A Community” Authentication System

If this idea was aimed towards a hosting platform like “wordpress.com” , where people can host their websites on a subdomain like " yoursite.wordpress.com " and many sites share the same infrastructure, that would make sense.

However, since Q2A is primarily a self-hosted software for independent communities, there's some concerns:

Diversity of installations: Every Q2A site is unique, with different designs, plugins, and security setups. So a centralized login system might not significantly improve the login experience for most communities that much.

Security risk: A major concern is spam or malicious users. For example, if someone creates an account on a low-security Q2A website, a centralized login could now allow them to access other communities that have stricter anti-spam measures. This creates a new attack point that each community currently controls independently.

User behavior: Like @ShaikMasthan already said, most users participate in just one Q2A community. Unless you're running a network of sites, which for that there's already a free solution, a plugin called "Network Sites Plugin" by NoahY.

I do see the idea’s appeal in extending a forum identity to external apps. But for self-hosted communities, the trade-offs, especially security and consistency don't seem worth it.

For now, for external login needs, there's a free plugin that allows you login with Google, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, called Q2A Social login plugin.
